Christian Contello, vocalist for Patterns of Decay shares â‘House of Doors’ to me is a reflection on a period in my life where the weight of past failures, personal loss, self doubt, and frustration all hit me head-on. It started with recurring dreams of being in a house with endless doors lining the halls. As I opened each one, I was thrown back into past memories both good and bad. This song is very personal for me, but I also feel that it mirrors the general mindset of our band leading up to its release. It illuminates the hardships, obstacles, and disappointments that weâve had to overcome as a band, and reveals the fact that we are still here; working out of pure passion for the music. I think that feeling is really encapsulated by the lyric; âWe hate it when you come here.â
âHouse of Doors” was directed by Tom Flynn (Lamb of God, Body Count, Fire from the Gods),
and is the first release from Patterns of Decayâs self-titled album coming April 15th.  The song was mixed by Dan Thabet of Liquid Studios, and mastered by Alan Douches of West Westside Studios.
New York tri -state areasâ burgeoning metal stalwarts Patterns of Decay have been slinging their brand of metal since 2014, playing more than a hundred shows to thousands of metal fans while mostly opening for major metal acts like All That Remains, Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Deicide, Misery Index, and Currents among others.
Patterns of Decay released its debut EP Malicious Intent and a music video for the track âA Foolâs Guide for Selling Your Soulâ Then, POD released their follow up in 2018 titled, Suicide Notes in Comic Sans, and with that album the band released two music videos during this album cycle. This album was the first to feature the bands current lineup, which has remained the same since its release. The album was also an opportunity to showcase their unique personality as a band.Â
Â
Over these last few years Patterns of Decay took ample time to look inward and discover their truest selves; to analyze demons and fears. âIn isolation, our doubts and suspicions take hold, and we learn to come to terms with the darker corners of our own minds. Itâs the ânew normal in a world forever changed by circumstances beyond our control. These were the themes to our upcoming self-titled album even before the pandemic cast its shadow on everything. Recent years have only proved to us that it was more important than ever that we record this album and share it with the metal world.â
Â
The band eagerly entered the studio at the end of 2019 with about 7 songs written, As much as the pandemic stole time from POD, it also gave time to become more comfortable with honing their sound. Patterns of Decay share “having the luxury of time to be able to write songs that had lasting impressions on each of us was a thin silver lining to a pretty dismal global situation.â This album in spite of the pandemic offered the opportunity for Patterns Of Decay to challenge themselves to produce their fully matured work .
Â
Patterns of Decay sits on the razor thin edge of their new albumâs release. “One more step and we see if our labors will bare any fruit. If this pandemic has taught us anything, itâs that weâve learned to become more than a band by becoming a family. During the most uncertain times, the five of us were there for each other, creating a support system built on trust. We made sure that none of us felt abandoned. That we all felt safe and heard. To us; it doesnât matter where we go from here. It only matters that we stick together. Letâs hope more people catch on.â
